A lot of people have asked me why I chose the name “Tricky Pancakes”, so here’s the answer!
My father and I have always used the phrase “tricky pancake” to refer to situations that might be a little awkward, difficult or challenging. Pancakes can be tricky to get right, and so can many different events we face in life. Tricky pancakes crop up everywhere!
A few examples:
“Goodness, I don’t know what to do about my lovely neighbour who snores like a bear…”
“Hmm, yes. That’s a tricky pancake.”
“I don’t know how to solve this ridiculously complicated sudoku. It’s such a tricky pancake!”
“I’ve got a tricky pancake here – do I go to the zoo on Saturday when it’ll be packed or on Sunday when it’ll be raining?”
When not to use:
“I’m not sure whether I should eat that last slice of red velvet cheesecake or just have a yoghurt instead. It’s a bit of a tricky pancake.”
No, this is NOT a tricky pancake. It’s very simple. ALWAYS EAT THE CAKE.
