In Case of Fire

In case of fire break glass,
Leave calmly and raise the alarm.
Apparently these simple instructions
Will ensure that you don’t come to harm.

Pull the pin in the nozzle,
And aim at the base of the fire.
It will help to distinguish the flames there,
And win back the peace you require.

It was started by an intruder,
You mistakenly let in your home.
But now his true colours have bled through the gaps,
Leaving only a faint monochrome.

If only you could have foreseen this
When reading his classified ad:
He had made you believe he could fix things,
And put right any problems you had.

He listened to all of your issues,
And provided his “honest” advice,
Then gave you a temporary solution
In disguise with a permanent price.

The fire had begun soon after,
Permeating hypnotic powers.
The colours were vivid and violent,
And grew bolder the more it devoured.

Caught in a trance you just stand there,
Enjoying its warmth as it thrives.
Why is it that when we stand so close to death,
We suddenly feel so alive?

It’s time to accept what has happened,
Although it may make you aggrieved.
You’ve fallen deep into his tortuous trap:
Head over heels, you have been deceived.

Don’t panic – there’s still time to fix this.
You can free yourself from any pain:
If you just find the power to fight it,
Your world will be brighter again.
